Learning and employee-driven innovation in the public sector – the interplay between employee engagement and organisational conditions

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine learning and employee-driven innovation (EDI) in the public sector, with a particular focus on interplay between employee engagement organisational conditions. Design/methodology/approach material consists qualitative interviews 23 participants from three municipal sites support that participated national programme aiming strengthen municipalities’ work. Findings found numerous constraining conditions resulting consequential loss for EDI. conclusion drawn enabling are central EDI sector workplaces, incorporating into daily operations requires paying attention engagement. Originality/value This paper provides important guidance supporting sector. Implementing be successful. However, employees’ should not overlooked or taken granted. A practical implication workplace must encouraged by creating environment supports innovative workplace. In practice, measures provide more expansive ensure continuity perpetuation organisations.
